Windohs XD Support

ABOUT THE APP

What is Windohs XD?
Windohs XD is a nostalgic parody of an early-2000s home computer desktop for iPhone and iPad. It’s packed with games, toys and utilities that actually work, plus Skippy, an extremely helpful paperclip. Visually similar, but legally distinct.

Is it a real operating system or an emulator?
No. It’s an app full of fun things to open. It doesn’t run real Windows programs.

Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 27 or later. On iPad you get a full windowed desktop. On iPhone you get a home screen of big, touch-friendly icons, and programs open full screen.

Do I need an internet connection?
No. Everything works offline. Apple Music playback in WinLamp is the only feature that uses the internet.

GETTING AROUND

How do I open things?
On iPhone, tap an icon to open it. On iPad, tap once to select an icon, then tap again (or double-tap) to open it. Tap the green “begin” button to see every program and game. Long-press an icon for more options.

Can I skip the startup sequence?
Yes. Open Control-ish Panel > Startup and choose a faster startup style.

How do I turn off the old-monitor (CRT) effect?
Open Control-ish Panel > Display and change the Display filter setting.

Skippy keeps talking. How do I make him stop?
Open Control-ish Panel > Skippy and Other Assistants and choose how often he helps. You can also turn him off completely. He takes it well. Mostly.

How do I undo a delete?
Deleted files go to the Regret Bin. Open it and choose Restore. Once you empty the Regret Bin, files are gone for good.

What’s the password on the login screen?
Anything you like. Security was scheduled for the next version.

MUSIC

How do I play my own music in WinLamp?
There are three ways:

  1. Files app: open the Files app, go to On My iPhone (or On My iPad) > Windohs XD > My Loud Music, and copy your songs in. MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, AIFF, CAF and FLAC all work. Then open the FOLDER tab in WinLamp and tap RESCAN.
  2. Import: in WinLamp, choose File > Import Songs to pick songs from iCloud Drive or other locations.
  3. Music library: open the LIBRARY tab to play songs stored on your device.

Can I play Apple Music?
Yes, with an Apple Music subscription. Open the APPLE MUSIC tab in WinLamp, tap Connect, and allow access. If searching doesn’t work, open Apple’s Music app once, make sure you’re signed in, and accept any prompts, then try again.

Why does the visualizer say “SIMULATED” for some songs?
Apple doesn’t let apps read the audio of Apple Music songs, so WinLamp shows a pretend animation for them. Your own music files get the real visualizer.

Why can’t some songs from my library play?
Songs protected by DRM, or stored only in the cloud, can’t be played directly. WinLamp plays them through Apple Music if you have a subscription.

THE PRETEND STUFF

Does the web browser go on the internet?
No. Internet Exploder is a pretend browser. Every website in it is built into the app, so it works offline and can’t load real web pages.

Does Mailstrom send real e-mail?
No. Mailstrom is a pretend e-mail program full of junk mail, chain letters and messages from Mom. Nothing is really sent or received.

Are there secrets?
Yes. Hidden easter eggs are tucked all over the desktop. We’re not telling. (Try asking Skippy.)

YOUR FILES AND PRIVACY

Where are my files stored?
Everything you create is stored locally on your device. There’s no account and no cloud sync. If you delete the app or lose your device without a backup, your files may be lost.

Do you collect my data?
Your documents, drawings and music never leave your device. The app sends only anonymous purchase information, which helps us understand sales and our App Store ads. See our privacy policy for details: https://ctrlaltgo.ca/windohs-xd-privacy-policy/

PURCHASES

How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit https://reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account.
